Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water

Makeup remover is a complementary good to any makeup products.

(Can you tell that I'm trying to put my Economics major to use from that statement? hahaha)

That's because when you wear makeup, you have to remove it at the end of the day...unless you're that infamous Korean girl who didn't remove her makeup for 2 years! Yikes!

Garnier recently came out with the Micellar Cleansing Water. Being an intern at L'Oreal Malaysia, I received a travel-sized bottle to try it out! Hence, I have the chance to share with you my thoughts on it.

The Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water claims to remove makeup/dirt with just one swipe, without leaving the skin dry.

As a frequent makeup wearer, I've tried many makeup removers - cleansing milk, oil , and wipes. I've stuck to cleansing wipes for a while now since it’s easy to use and efficiently removes all my makeup! It also doesn't make a mess (like how cleansing oil would), which I love cz I'm OCD like that.

Word has been going around that cleansing water is becoming THE PRODUCT to remove makeup because of how gentle it is on the skin, yet very effective. And unlike cleansing oil or milk, it doesn't leave the skin feeling oily or gross.

Prior to the Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water, I've never tried other cleansing water (like the cult favourite from Bioderma) because it’s too expensive for my student wallet. But lo and behold, the cheaper alternative is in stores!

The Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water comes in two variations:
Pink - normal/sensitive skin
Blue - oily/acne-prone skin

Both variations come in two sizes:
400ml (RM29.90)
125ml (RM14.90)

I love the fact that they have a smaller bottle. In fact, I love any product that comes in travel size! It's so much easier to travel with...and let's be real, if you want to try out a product without fully committing and investing :P

*Note: Keep in mind that the smaller bottle is over 100ml, not carry-on luggage-friendly.

Right off the bat, I'll tell you that the price point is affordable and I wouldn't mind purchasing it. But does price matter if it sacrifices on the quality? Of course not! If it's cheap and doesn't work, it's a plain waste of money.

I was initially quite skeptical about the product because drugstore skincare products generally doesn’t work for me. Mostly because I have problematic skin aka high maintenance skin (selected high end/dermatologist products only).

After not giving it a glance for a couple of days, I decided to try it out since it's free anyway. Plus, I like trying new products for the process of judging it haha

Let me tell you. I was pleasantly surprised at how well it worked.

Here’s me with full-on makeup!

How to use:
The Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water goes hand in hand with cotton pads.
Basically, the micelle embedded in soft water attracts dirt, oil and makeup easily. So, when it's on the cotton pad, the micelle will attract all dirt and makeup upon contact with the skin, transferring the gunk onto the cotton pad.

Technicalities aside, it's very simple. Just drown your cotton pad with the cleansing water and wipe yo' face!

Since eye makeup is usually more long-wearing, I always place the cotton pad over my eye area for 7-10 seconds to breakup the makeup (hey, it rhymes!).

Once I have the cotton pad soaked with the Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water, I get to use both sides to remove my makeup – how economical!

On average, I use 4-5 cotton pads depending on how heavy my makeup is. The last cotton pad is just to go over my entire face again to pick up leftover makeup or missed-out spots.

Welcome the imperfections!

Going back to the Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water claims, yes, one swipe does remove makeup. However, with eye makeup I don't think there's such a thing as one-swipe-and-poof-it's-gone. So that claim applies till that extent. As for the claim of not leaving the skin dry, I completely stand by it! It feels just like water, that my skin feels clean and fresh...no stickiness or residue.

I must note that while it's generally a very good (better than expected) makeup remover, it cannot remove waterproof mascara and falsies...or at least the glue of the falsies.

(Yup, had to Photoshop the imperfections away hahaha)

Overall, I enjoyed using the Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water! I was so surprised by how well it performed that I’m raving about it to my sisters and friends. I mean, it's only right to share such a discovery no?
