I haven't been blogging ever since the new semester at university started...mainly because I've been emotionally unstable and didn't have the mood to blog. Funny thing about it is, I felt worse than I did when I first entered university last September(2013). So much worse that I developed what I believe to be mild anxiety.
I feel more than slightly better now thanks to Michelle who always pacify me when I'm being a cry baby by letting me stay over at her place so I don't feel so alone lol
So last weekend, she had a sudden excitement of going trekking. She used to go for morning jogs with Nithiyah, so I'm not surprised la. I on the other hand, don't really like getting physical. Okay, actually I prefer trekking or camping with a bunch of close friends rather than being forced as a part of school requirements.
Meat came up that weekend and stayed over at my place too..so before she ran off with her boyfriend, we dragged her to Kuala Selangor with us hahaha
The Kuala Selangor Nature Park is approximately an hour away from Petaling Jaya. Michelle drove there with the aid of Waze's navigation. Kuala Selangor is mainly like a kampung area and their town is just like Kukup.
Arrived at the Kuala Selangor Nature Park!
We started our journey at around 8am and arrived at 9am. Equipped ourselves with mosquito repellent lotion, water bottles, Zambuk and a few other essentials. Since it was a spontaneous trip, I only informed Meat of our plan when she was already on the bus up to KL hahaha So she had to squeeze her feet into my shoes.
the layout and ticket prices
This nature park is a conservation area for monkeys, birds, pangolins and some other animals. If you're interested in staying for a night, say if you wanna have family time, with friends or even school trips, they have accommodation to be rented (Prices and number of pax stated in the photo below).
Counter to buy the tickets.
Just a heads up- they sell the map of the park, not for free. So don't just take if off the counter like I did hahaha I returned it, don't worry :P
General info leaflet and our tickets!
The starting point is a bit secluded, but it's quite obvious in the sense that it's the only path to go onto since the surroundings are the chalets.
Signboard to mark the start of the path
According to the ticket lady, the first 10 minutes there's A LOT of mosquitoes. It's not really 10 minutes, it's about 5 minutes walk I would say. But that's not where the most mosquitoes are, in my opinion...it was at the bridge where you get to choose your route. Freaking swarm of mosquitoes around Michelle when she stopped to tie her shoelaces O.O
We applied our mosquito repellents, so we didn't get bitten.
The bridge
There were 3 paths to choose from. The middle one only leads to a tower, from which you can see the layout of the park. We went up there first, panting when we reached the top hahaha We haven't even started trekking! LOL
Nothing much to see from above la.. just trees and the mangrove swamp.
We went down and decided to take the left route. All pumped up, walking through the jungle-park, started sweating....then we saw some monkeys swinging from tree to tree. We'd walk past the trees with monkey on it in a faster pace lolol I don't like monkeys, they like stealing food. Though I didn't have any food in my bag, what if they suddenly come in packs and pull our hairs and bite us? Monkeys are more vicious than they look, okay.
Upon reaching the sand area, Michelle got excited and told us there were people up ahead (since we were the only ones at that time). Meat and I looked, and those were not people, mind you...they were monkeys! A group of them *face palm* hahahah Michelle wasn't wearing her glasses :P
We decided to make a detour cz walking past a group of monkeys is no joke, okay. It's like a warning to not go close. We didn't see any rangers around either, so it was even more dangerous. So we walked back to the bridge and took the right route. At the similar distance, we saw like 2 monkeys. Disheartened and lazy, we walked back to our car and ended our trekking hahahaha
It may seem pointless, but we walked for about an hour! Not bad...managed to sweat an hour's worth lolol
Kuala Selangor Nature Park
Opening hours: 9am - 6pm daily
After the short trekking expedition, we headed for Cendol Bakar! We passed by it going into town, so decided to give it a try since it's highly raved about.
Being in a village-y area, the least expected thing would be having a drive-thru cendol store. Heck, we don't even have this in the city! hahaha
All kinds of cendols to choose from
Also on the menu was all things durian!
We really wanted to try the Durian Popia cz a few days before that, we had Cempedak Rolls at Fat Spoon. Too bad they didn't have it at that time :'( They had durian crepes, but super expensive. On the poster they had 2 pieces for RM6 and 6 pieces for RM13. We wanted only 2 pieces to try since we were going for lunch afterwards, but they said only 6 pieces available =.="
Jalan-Jalan Cari Makan food programme recommends!
Cendol Durian Pulut, RM4
The durian was very fragrant. It wasn't bitter nor tasteless, just enough taste and aroma. Bliss! They were generous with the pulut(glutinous rice)..but since it was frozen before served, it was a bit hard to cut with the spoon. It was fine after a little while.

Cendol Bakar, Kuala Selangor
Opening hours: Mon-Fri (11am - 6pm), Sat-Sun (10am - 7pm)
Coconut shake, otak-otak, gigantic curry puffs and barbecue chicken can also be found there. Different stall, but very close by.
The coconut shake stall opens at 11am, so we had to wait for half an hour. The boy in charge of the stall didn't seem very keen on doing business...he replied us groggily in a very low and lazy voice. Quite annoying. We waited anyway since we wanted to try it out.
We later noticed he was the only one tending the stall, with the assistance of a young girl...so he had to do everything from washing the blender, chopping the coconuts, filling the jug with coconut water, making the shake. I guess that's why he was kinda lifeless and mood out to do his business lol
Coconut Shake Special (with ice cream), RM3.50
The coconut shake was acceptable, but very comparable to the famous Klebang Coconut Shake. The taste was there, but quite watery and diluted...for the price of RM3.50 with ice cream. My favourite Klebang Coconut Shake charges only RM2.50 for their special, also with ice cream and it tastes sooo thick and yummy! Not to mention the blended bits of coconut flesh in the shake too. Heaven!
For lunch, we went to Jeti Seafood! Didn't take much photos here cz we were all starving...and it took quite some time for the dishes to arrive.
Deep fried fish with soy sauce, stir-fried baby kailan, butter prawns, deep fried baby octopus
Sooooooo good! I love seafood like crazy but seldom eat cz it's expensive. All the dishes were yummy...except the butter prawns that were more like cereal prawns lol The prawns were rather difficult to peel too...so that's the only dish I wouldn't re-order the next time I'm back.
Aside from that, it's a really good place to dine at cz the prices are rather affordable, cheaper than usual. All these for approximately RM80. The fish was RM40, prawns were RM18. Not bad at all!
Michelle's favourite deep dried baby octopus with sweet sauce. Yummmz!
